Discussion

I thought I'd ask a few questions and get some of your opinions on the story. If you'd prefer that I set up a discussion forum at fanfiction, I can try that, but I thought this may give you a way to relay thoughts....

1. What is the one thing you are most looking forward to in the story (ie. the wedding, more coworker reaction, etc.) How can we make that be everything you are looking forward to?

2. Is there anything that you think we can improve upon in the story to make it more enjoyable. If there is, please explain what we can do to make it better - if you aren't sure about how to fix it, that's okay - it's just giving a suggestion to fix a problem usually makes it easier to figure out how to do so.

3. What is your favorite thing about the story? Least favorite thing? Or what do you want to see happen? Not see happen? (kinda an opportunity to vent about anything here)

4. We are discussing a sequel for when this eventually finishes. I know there was a short conversation about what that would entail in one of the response discussions but I'm not sure everyone reads the responses...So, what are your thoughts on that. What should it include? What would you like to see happen? How far in the future should it start? End?
Saying that, I'd like to clarify that we do have this story completely outlined as to the main events. So if you were to say a sequel should start at an event that actually is in this story, that won't work, but we're trying to think of ideas. And saying something may even help us round out the last half of this story.

Ok, I think that's all I can think to ask. Really, the questions are a guide of some things we were wondering about. Thoughts/opinions/whatever can be mentioned :)

i guess i'll be the first one to comment on this discussion thing.

1: what i'm looking forward to most in the fanfic is, of course, the wedding/honeymoon. i'm hoping that this fanfic will end on that high note (of course having a sequel will not hurt) - and of maybe proof that rory is begining to have a secure job in the business - be it at the same newspaper that she's at now or at another one - all based on her talent as a writer.
2/3: what i love most about this story are the scenes between rory and logan. they're SOO cute together and i love their witty banter and how sweet he is to her. i wish there was more of that, and it seemed like in the last few chapters there has been less of then together - at the workplace or at home, just being together. i love it how he just gets her and that they work so well together as a team - in and out of the workplace. and i also like his interactions with her family.
4: i love that you're thinking of doing a squel. i can't wait! i can see one of starting around their one year anniversary - about their lives together with work and everything..now that rory's established her self more as a writer and not just logan huntzburger's wife. as to what else i'd like to have in there, i really can't say. i guess anything rogan is good - but i don't think i'd want them to start a family too soon...i really don't like a lot of the stories out there that make rory pregnet and she has to stop working, or she miscarrages and then they go through some hardships.
if you were to include kids, maybe make the story 2/3 years in the future, when it's more probable that they will consider having kids - or that they already have one that's one or two.

anyhow, just thought i'd throw in my two cents.

i REALLY love this story! i check everyday for updates - and if there isn't one, i'll re-read the story or just read my favorite chapters over again! please update soon!! keep up the good work.

I really would like to see more of the office interaction. I'm really excited to see how Mike and the rest of the office will start acting around Rory. I think it would be funny. It would also be great if rory and logan showed more of themselves toghether to dispel the notion of an arranged marriage.

I also would love to see more of Mitchum/Rory/Logan scenes (perhaps at an office setting as well). I really like the Mitchum character arc.

I've loved Logan's protective nature so far. It's so cute and it's something i would love to see more of.

Like the previous poster, i too would prefer it if there was no 'baby surprise'. But definetly if the sequel is set in a year or two ahead. I WOULD LOVE A SEQUEL! IT HAS TO BE A MUST!

I know you've already said this, but the haydens mixing it up with the huntzbergers would be really interesting as well.

That's all i can think of so far, but i definetely hope for more office interactions.

Thank you for this post and i hope we can read the new chapter soon.

what am i lookin forward to; well to be honest i am a huge fan of the finn/bre relationship and would love to see more of that. i think finn has definitely matured being with bre and that he is tryin so hard to be everything he thinks she deserves. plus i think given bres past she deserves her happy ending :D

would love more stuff with rory at work and her tryin to get settled back into her normal work life now that she has been 'exposed' hopefully ppl can stop being vindictive towards her.

i love the relationship that logan and rory have. the banter and comfort levels you portray are fab! logans protective nature when rory was sick was amazing and any reader could see how deeply in love he is. can't wait to see you view on what their wedding would be like.

i don't really have any least fav bits, tho if shira didn't make another appearence i can't say i'd be bothered

i like other commenters am just anxious for the next update, and when there isn;t one go to my fav parts and reread chapters again just to get my tgol fix.

can;t wait for you to update

    1. i'm looking forward to is more of the coworkers reactions and obviously the wedding
    2. i love the scenes between rory and logan the most and the big group scenes with colin, finn, steph, and bri along with them
    3. i'm pretty good with everything that has been going on
    4. i think a sequel would be good, maybe it should end with the wedding and pick up with a pregnancy rory's, bri, steph any of them.

i really like your story, i love the idea and the characters they very real. great job! <333

okay, first of all i REALLY miss this story because it's my favorite RL fanfic so i'll be happy for it's return :-)

what i'm most looking foward to is the wedding and all the fun drama between the planing with emily and shira. i also am looking foward to seeing how finn and bri's relationship pans out because i'm really into that part of the story. I do also miss stuff at the office because it's been missing a little every since rory's true identity came out.

I really love how original TGOL is and that makes it so unique from other fanfics. I love how finn and bri's relationship has evolved, the chapters where it's just the two of them are so good that i don't even mind that there's not rogan interaction sometimes. I think Lynn and Christi have done a great job creating belivable lives and scenerios for R/L. A lot of fanfics either copy past episodes and put their own spins on them, or they create total new personalties for rory and logan, but TGOL has a really good balance of creating new scenerios and maintaining how the characters would really react. There have been so many chapters that I really believe could work as actual episoides for GG.

As far as what i don't like, i think sometimes logan gets a little too domestic and morphs into this complete "husband -logan prototype", which i don't always mind but maybe you could incorporate more of logan's risk- taking personality.

I'm thrilled that there might be a sequal in the future. i'm sure it'll be just as amazing as this story. i don't think you should do one with them having kids because thats usually the directions all the sequals go in, and unless you can find a really unique way to show that part of their lives it might be a little boring and predictable. Maybe the sequal could be more about thier first year married and the troubles of being newlyweds or maybe something about rory getting lost in her new life as a working society wife... i don't know, all i know is a sequal would be great.

love the story and i miss it soo much, please update as soon as you can.

i love the story how it is but i would like more rogan as everyone else does. i would really like the story to end with the wedding and finn and bri sleeping together. um i in the sequel i would like to see maybe like 1 or 2 years after wedding and maybe have rory be pregnant or having them move closer to home because i really miss stars hollow

Everyone - Thank you so much for your comments. You've all definitely given us stuff to think about. Don't worry, the thinking will not happen until after the next chapter is posted (and Lynn is currently working on it).

But I have a question to those who've responded - or others even. I think that ending a story at a wedding is such a cliche place to end it and I always like choosing another spot. Do you guys agree with that statement or do you think that weddings nicely end a story. Lynn and I were talking about this topic a while ago and I was wondering your thoughts.

That's not saying anything about our current plans on where the story should end - which could easily change.

I was just curious of your thoughts. We're trying to make this story different and entertaining so your thoughts will definitely help.

    Thanks,
    Christi

I would much see you end the story after the wedding an dhoneymoon (I guess partly because you have eluded to the honeymoon in this story I would at least want the story to end after that) but I would have to agree that ending at the wedding is a little cliche I would much rather it end later (someone had the idea of at a high point in Rory's career, which I though was a good one) I guess this question also depends on when the sequel would start (which I love the idea of) but I would like to see that start a few years when Rory is first pregnant or maybe on their second..third child (partly because I think there is a lot of material on Logan going crazy and driving Rory crazy while being pregnant!) Love the story and can't wait for the next chapter!

what i am looking most forward to is the office or co worker interaction. Those are usually my favorite scenes.
What i like most about the story is the scenes between rory and logan.
I would like there to be more rory/logan interaction at the office and maybe even throw mitchum in those scenes as well. I like how rory and logan act around each other in the office like when he had stolen her notes towards the begining of the story.
Update soon and good work so far!

i completely agree that ending this story with a wedding would be cliche. its much more fun for the reader if the story continues after the original goal is met. maybe the story could end by covering the honeymoon and the first couple weeks or months of rogans married life. i definitly would love to have coverage on finn and bri's relationship too in the last chapter.

bottom line please don't just end it with the wedding, this story is way too engaging to have it cut off like that.

I am most looking forward to just more of the everyday interactions (work, friends, family, parties etc), you have definitely nailed all the characters right on the head and that is what I love so much about this story-it seems real enough so that I can relate to it but quirky enough for the GG world.
If you did end it with the wedding I think you could pull it off easily enough without making it too cliche--I think I would really enjoy you ending it here but I understand the qualms with that. But if not I do think you should end relatively soon after the wedding, maybe with them coming home after the honeymoon with Logan doing something sweet for Rory to start their new life together.
With my opinions aside I cannot wait for the new chapter!!! Hope to read it soon!

please do not end the story at the wedding. it is very cliche. i would like to see it further pan out, until perhaps 6 months.

to add to what someone else has mentioned. The scene where logan steals rory's notes at the office is one of my favourite scenes in this story. it showed the playfulness and the affection so well. i would love to see more office scenes of them together

First I have to apologize for my english. I am Norwegian, so I'm not so trained in writing english.

So I have to say: I really love "The Game of Life"! I check the blog evry day for updates, and I hope it won't take too long before next chapter is up.
I really love det Finn/Bri part of the story, and I hope we'll see more of that! I also really like the scenes with the whole group; Rory, Logan, Collin, Steph, Finn and Bri.

Of course I'm looking forward to the wedding, but please; don't end the story there, that's way too cliché.

Then it's just one thing to say; Keep up the good work!

I've made you a little presant, you can find it here:

It's not my best work ever, but I just wanted you to know how much I
appreciate the story and the work you are doing!

Okay so I really enjoy the office scenes and the ones with the entire group (Logan, rory, colin, Finn and steph). I'm also curious to see where you are going with the haydens. I love the idea of a sequal!!! Keep up the GREAT work...any news as to when there might be an update coming...hopefully in the near future???? Please and thank you

I'm looking forward for the whole wedding part. I want everything to look and be perfect on the wedding. I want everyone to be happy even Shira. I really love the story so I don't really have a favorite scene or least favorite scene. I don't really want a whole sequel to the story because I really don't think the story should end, since it is the Game of Life it doesn't end until the life ends.

i think you should have it end after they return from their honeymoon..whether its 2 days or 2 months later.
im super excited that there may be a sequel!! really hope u do it!

First of all, this story is amazing and a sequel would please a lot a lot of readers.

One thing that I would honestly love to see that no one else has mentioned would be Shira's reaction to the fact that Rory is a Hayden. I've always loved the idea of the Hayden's being a very prominent family in the Hartford Circle, and the look of shock and embarrassment on Shira's face at the information would be something that I simply wouldn't want to miss. I think that you could also give it your own point of view and own twist, as you have done with details of the story so far.

So please do continue, include the relationships that are currently included, I love how Rory and Logan interact. But please do include Shira and Francine, perhaps even a confrontation between the two; something we would all want to bear witness to.

I don't think or want this story to end!!!! But if had to T_T please after the honeymoon! And I VOTE FOR A SEQUEL!!!

    1. I'm looking forward to the awe factor when it comes to rory and her co-workers. I would also LOVE to see Shira's face when she finds out about Francine being Rory's grandmother. It's been years since Rory's sixteenth birthday and it seems like it should be time for Rory and Francine to connect as family.

    2. There's nothing really that you can approve upon. It would be nice if you were able to put up an estimated date of your next chapter in the previous chapter, but i know it can be difficult to estimate these kinds of things.

    3. My favorite thing is how you make Rory and Logan work together to make the normal world and the society workd intermix. My least favorite thing is little missy uppity shira huntzberger. i understand it's purpose as a conflict, but that doesn't mean i can't wait for her ass to be proverbially kicked. or literally kicked. quite frankly, i don't much care either way. I want to see a big society wedding, but i think it would be nice for a small wedding too, just family and friends. I don't want to see a huge blow out between rory and logan. i understand little fights but nothing horrible. And shira cannot ruin their relationship either, the little whore *coughcoughsuppressedangercoughcough*

    4. Love the sequel idea. Should include honeymoon and maybe pregancy drama. whether it's just a scare or not should be up to you, but they're getting older. more adult problems should crop up, such as pregnancy. Or maybe it doesn't even have to be rory pregnant. she and logan could just have a talk about it after steph gets pregnant or something. But i would prefer rory pregnant. Feel free to name the baby after me! Lorelai Peyton Leigh Gilmore-Huntzberger. Doesn't sound to shabby does it? Or if it's a boy Julian Blake Huntzberger. Sounds good doesn't it? Feel free to worship at my feet at any given moment, I know, I'm good. Seriously though, consider those names please.

I agree . . . weddings are REALLY cliche endings. I think ending it somewhere else would be fine :)

  • At 10:09 PM, February 03, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said…

I would really like to see the co-workers reactions or just their gossip... I also really like it when there are other points of view...Sort of like other people who don't know anything about Rory and Logan's relationship and still talking about them...

What I really don't like about the story is one thing only... and it's when the wedding will take place... I know the Gilmores like snow and all but I just never liked winter weddings...

I also like the Haydens in the story(just like the other post-er said)... I really think it would stir things up a bit...

On the first few chapters, Rory and Logan always have those funny conversations about the most pointless stuff and it's sort of lacking now... I hope you add more of those...

It would be nice if you add a few guest surprises... Like people from Rory's past... People not really trying to stir up trouble and some TRYING9keyword is trying, meaning won't work) to try to break them up... Sort of like a test...

Oh and please, I beg of you, no more pregnancies! Not in this part of the story anyway.... Probably on the sequel....

please, please, please update soon! i too an going through withdrawl! i check everyday - everytime i open my firefox i hit the bookmark for the story and see if there's anything new - and i do that A LOT of times during the day. please, please, please, please!!

i would really like to see a pregnancy scare and a good discussion to follow that...because rory getting pregnant is overdone.
this story is so amazingly written, cant wait for an update. and crosses fingers, for a sequel eventually :)

    Hey!

I just want to say how much I love this story. That being said, is there an update in the works? You guys were usually so good at updating quickly. I was just wondering if somethings wrong. If so, I hope it's okay.

  • At 3:27 PM, February 14, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said…

When you write the sequel, I think that it should be about them starting a family. I would love to see how that would play out.

  • At 9:41 AM, February 17, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said…

    1. I am most definitly looking forward to the wedding the most!!!

    2. I think that you are doing a very wonderful job with the story and so far nothing needs to be improved. The only thing is that I hate waiting so long for updates! But if you need time to be a genius that's alright.

    3. My favorite thing about the story is pretty much everything. The anticipation of it all is wonderful, but i love how were getting the full step-by-step process.

    4. I think a sequel would be wonderful. It should include some typical trials and tribulations of a couple's first year of marriage. And a huge party. Not a society event, but a party. Maybe an LDB event or something in Stars Hallow. Just something wild. Maybe this can even be moved into the story now, not the sequel. Just an idea.

An as always, great job! I just love your writing!!!
